LGBTQ Family Building Q & A

What is LGBTQ+ family building?

LGBTQ+ family building is a type of fertility treatment that helps same-sex couples start a family. At CARE Fertility, the team has more than 30 years of experience providing fertility treatments to members of the LGBTQ+ community.

After an in-office consultation, a complete physical exam, and a discussion of your goals, CARE Fertility can develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your needs.

What does LGBTQ+ family building involve?

At CARE Fertility, LGBTQ+ family building involves several steps, including:

Step one: In-person evaluation

An in-person evaluation includes a discussion of your goals and a physical exam.

If you’re biologically female and want to carry the baby yourself, the team also conducts a pelvic ultrasound and orders bloodwork to assess your level of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH).

If you’re biologically male, the team works with you to find an egg donor and surrogate mother.

Step two: Lab work

If you’re biologically female, the team also conducts a wide range of lab tests, including a prenatal panel, a thyroid panel, and a vitamin D test. The results of these tests help the team determine the best type of fertility treatment.

Step three: Structural evaluation

Your provider does a structural evaluation of your uterus and fallopian tubes. They use a special tool called a hysteroscope, to examine the inside of your cervix and uterus. That helps identify problems that might prevent you from conceiving.

Step four: A custom fertility treatment plan

After gathering all of the necessary information, your CARE Fertility provider develops a treatment plan to help you start a family.

What fertility treatments does LGBTQ+ family building offer?

At CARE Fertility, the team uses a wide range of fertility treatments for LGBTQ+ family building, including:
